Super Mario Brothers Pietà…
Almost every person has seen Michelangelo’s “La Pietà” created in 1499 depicting Mary holding Jesus after the crucifixion.
Now, nerds have their own version. Kordian Lewandowski has created “Game Over” showing Princess Peach holding a dead Mario. With as many times as I died playing the original Super Mario Brothers on the Nintendo, I can vividly imagine the feelings that the princess had. Oh well, glad to see nerds are being incorporated into culture. Everything from Optimus Rhyme, MC Frontalot and now this!

No commentsToday was a great day in history…
It was the first day of the outward presentation of the nerd. This day, in 1947, Hurley Smith was awared the infamous patent 2417786…the POCKET PROTECTOR!

It only took him about 4 years to finally get his patent approved, but, he successfully had it filed. Manufacturing began on these originally PVC wonders that kept the pencils from harming the shirts of engineers and others.
So let’s all take a minute and have a brief moment of quiet respect for the man who created a social icon!
No commentsThe Dark Crystal’s social commentary on beggars…
Normally, I really dislike when a person decides to remix any of my favorite movies, but I have to say, this remix of The Dark Crystal has to be quite hilarious. Any of you who might be a little concerned about some language might stay away (not too bad), but other than that, enjoy my own thoughts of what beggars are like.
No commentsAtheism, Liberals, Monogamists…oh my!
So, it appears that a study has been performed by Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics and Political Science, that states that “statistically significantly more likely to exhibit social values and religious and political preferences that are novel to the human species in evolutionary history”. Basically, people who veer away from evolutionary/social norms is more likely to be a more intelligent person.
People who always fall back on God as an answer to everything will not seek out an answer to the problem. Kanazawa stated that “humans are evolutionarily designed to be paranoid, and they believe in God because they are paranoid.” Teenagers ratioed 103/97 in IQ scores for no God/God believers.
Past social norms was to worry about one’s self and family first, but a lot more people now have been leaning towards helping others. The latter has shown to have a higher ratio of IQ scores as well…106/95 to be exact.
And men used to have multiple mates, although women generally kept the same mate. So, men who now keep just one mate have shown higher intellect.
So, according to this report, if you are a monogamous, liberal, atheist male, you should be brilliant! Well, I guess I’m getting there…

No commentsBombs away!
I don’t normally promote bath products for men, but if a man absolutely had to have a bathtub playtoy, what better way than a bath fizzer shaped like a bomb, torpedo or mine? Now, it says these things are scented, but I hate to think of what…gunpowder? Sweat? Napalm in the morning? Please tell me it’s anything except tulips or cookies.
Also, I’d hate to give one of these as a gift to an old war tattered veteran and have a heart attack in the bath tub while reliving some World War II memory. Let’s hope not at least.

No commentsTimelines for Time Travel in Popular Culture
Over at Information is Beautiful, they have generated a visual timeline of how science fiction movies interact with each other. It is quite interesting to see all the paradoxes in the timelines, and yet funniest is the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure follow through. I have included a copy of the image, but you are probably best off going to their website to see it in all its glorious detail!

Always have to love the combo of Fantasy and Current World
Most of the time, XKCD‘s comics are way too high brow for the normal person to understand (and I actually lump myself into that group!), but today’s just really struck a funny chord with me. Just think, mixing Sauron and Beyonce in the same comic takes skill, just pure skill!

2 commentsContortionists from 1944….introducing the Ross Sisters!
Thought I would hop back on to good ol’ Enginerdiness and try my hand at it again. Cruising along, I found a post from Scott Johnson at Extralife that contained something…well…interesting. You just have to take a look at it yourself.
