Nothing cool like this ever happens around Charlotte
…and now I am upset because I always miss the cool things!
The space shuttle Endeavor just returned the other day from its mission to deliver many things, including the new urine converter to make fresh water in space. As it reentered the atmosphere, it created a double sonic boom which frightened more than a few residents of California. There are tons of videos, some even showing the whole house shaking. Funny part is, if you aren’t a firefighter, that the emergency phone lines were flooded with calls because people thought an explosion had happened near them.
NASA needs to build a base outside of Charlotte. Case closed.
No commentsI was requested to post about “Decotora”
…the Japanese version of “Pimp My Ride”.
A friend of mine at work was watching G4 the other night where on “Attack of the Show” they were talking about the Japanese and how they decorate semi-trucks with tons of lights. Wikipedia defines Decotora as “trucks commonly found in Japan that have neon or ultraviolet lights, extravagant paints, and shiny stainless or golden exterior parts”. The funny part is, during the night, these trucks are not allowed on the roads due to being a crash hazard with the amount of lights blinding other drivers. I don’t know a whole lot more, but enjoy the pictures nonetheless!

No commentsTime for some old school ‘rithmetic
…at least, back from the 1940s.
Introducing Ma & Pa Kettle with their backwards view of math….enjoy!
No commentsDo you remember all the fuss made over pencils used on ScanTron tests
…well, maybe the true reason isn’t that the machine won’t recognize the pencil lead, but that it could cause a catastrophic explosion as seen in XKCD’s comic.
Everytime I took a ScanTron test, the teachers harped incessantly about using a #2 pencil. I mean, what would happen if you didn’t? You would fail if you didn’t have one because the reader couldn’t see the graphite? The paper would disintegrate due to the sheer amounts of pressure applied under a harder lead? The tectonic plates would shift causing the big earthquake that’s due any day in Charleston? The world economy would collapse? Oh wait, that last one is in the process…Anyway, quite a funny take on the subject in the comic.

No commentsI may be the spreadsheet master of the universe at work
…but man, I think I need to pass up the title to this person!
I’m just in shock…I don’t know how long this took. This is an AC/DC video made only in Excel spreadsheets. I can not imagine how long this may have taken! But, I have to say, I will gladly pass along my title give to me at work to this creator of a nerdy masterpiece. Bravo sir, bravo!
No commentsThe ultimate BBQ rig was built
…and Crutchfield actually helped since the man won the “Your Dream It, We’ll Help You Build It” competition.
Michael Seville inherited the 17′ long barbecue grill from his father when he passed away. As well as the grill, Michael also inherited the family business of concessions. After 8 years, he closed down the business and placed the grill behind the house where it just started to decay. Once he saw the competition offered by Crutchfield, he decided to enter to make the ultimate tailgating barbecue grill for the Tampa Bay Bucs football games.
Before he was able to put the good stuff on, he did have to do a lot of repairwork to the wood and even the steel frame due to rot and rust, but he was able to get it done and proceed.
The list of what he got from Crutchfield to put on the trailer can be seen below:
26″ LCD HD Samsung TV
Valor DVD Receiver with iPod Control
Polk Audio Speakers (6-3/4″ speakers with 12″ subwoofer)
Alpine Amplifiers
Not too shabby if you ask me!

No commentsOne of the best videos of the MTV era in the 80s
…has now been remade (spoofed) by a truly literal translation!
I’m sure that everyone has HEARD the song “Take On Me” by Aha, but as I found out at work, a lot of people haven’t seen the video. I still hold to my belief to this day that the artwork, creativity and ingenuity of this video are far above and beyond anything today. Now, take a look at the super literal remake of the lyrics of the original video!
No commentsWho all loves to play with Legos?
…because undoubtedly, not as much as they love to play with them in Austria.
To celebrate 100 years of the “Friends of Children” festival in Vienna, Austria, a tower soaring 96.73′ (about 9 stories) was built solely of Legos. 121 plates were designed and built by 3,000 kids using Lego bricks to help make up this world breaking record.
I played a little bit with Legos while growing up, but never could I have imagined having over 460,000 at my disposal to have fun with!

No commentsHmm, never thought about putting these two together
…a clip from Bloodsport (arguably one of the best movies of all time) and the old Mentos theme song. If you remember the original Mentos commercials, then you will get a big kick out of this.

No commentsI don’t think it takes a nerd to appreciate this chemistry experiment
with decomposing mercury thiocyanide.
To be honest, I’ve never heard of that chemical compound. It doesn’t sound very safe kids considering I can only assume it has mercury and cyanide in it, but that does’t affect the parent’s in letting the kids start it. Either way, watch the video and see how tentacles from a B-rated horror movie were first thought up.
