Matchstick modeller Patrick Acton has successfully completed a feat that few would undertake…creating a model of Minas Tirith based on the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. The city of the kings, the capital of Gondor and home of the White Tree only took 3 years and 420,000 matchsticks (where do you find that many?!?!) and tons of patience. But then again, with this museum with other matchstick creations being located in Iowa, what else is there to do?

Either way, I salute you Patrick. That model is beyond incredible!

I’m not the biggest of Star Wars freaks, but I love the movies all the same. This cake, commissioned by the bride Rebecca Dudeiros, was created by a chef named Teresa Ulrich. The cake shows a lovely cut of the movie where the AT-AT was taken down by the rebellion. It turned out wonderfully in my eyes, but the little Ewoks seem a bit freaky to me to eat. Let’s just hope they aren’t red velvet cupcakes, because that would just plain raise the creepy factor. Awesome job!

Now, nerds have their own version. Kordian Lewandowski has created “Game Over” showing Princess Peach holding a dead Mario. With as many times as I died playing the original Super Mario Brothers on the Nintendo, I can vividly imagine the feelings that the princess had. Oh well, glad to see nerds are being incorporated into culture. Everything from Optimus Rhyme, MC Frontalot and now this!

Dalek Found in Beulieu

Marc Oakland was cleaning a pond in Hampshire when he stumbled the head of a Dalek…the famous enemy of the UK’s Doctor Who television series. To me, this proves one of two things…either this is a leftover prop from the show that gone thrown in the swamp, or the Daleks really do exist and this is one that got lost and died in the swamp. I vote for the latter…which makes me scared, really scared.

I never thought about the GPS embedded in planes to capture latitude, longitude as well as altitude. Capturing those and then tracking them all with a global satellite image has created quite a unique video.
