Always have to love the combo of Fantasy and Current World

March 10th, 2010 | Category: Geekery at its best!

Most of the time, XKCD‘s comics are way too high brow for the normal person to understand (and I actually lump myself into that group!), but today’s just really struck a funny chord with me. Just think, mixing Sauron and Beyonce in the same comic takes skill, just pure skill!

Another good guide for parenting

…given by the funny people at XKCD! They now give you their guide on how to have a contingency plan if you should happen to have a child rotten to the core. There are ALWAYS options, and this just provides another if you go with their “Jurassic Park” approach!

Do you remember all the fuss made over pencils used on ScanTron tests

November 06th, 2008 | Category: Geekery at its best!,Ruminations

…well, maybe the true reason isn’t that the machine won’t recognize the pencil lead, but that it could cause a catastrophic explosion as seen in XKCD‘s comic.

Everytime I took a ScanTron test, the teachers harped incessantly about using a #2 pencil. I mean, what would happen if you didn’t? You would fail if you didn’t have one because the reader couldn’t see the graphite? The paper would disintegrate due to the sheer amounts of pressure applied under a harder lead? The tectonic plates would shift causing the big earthquake that’s due any day in Charleston? The world economy would collapse? Oh wait, that last one is in the process…Anyway, quite a funny take on the subject in the comic.

Another reason why I shouldn’t have a child…

June 26th, 2008 | Category: The Mystery of Q

…is because of the inherent inquisitiveness of being a structural engineer.

Babies...the ultimate erector set!

I have to know how everything works, which could involve taking things apart and trying to put it back together. I never thought of that in the context of a child, but XKCD Comics really nailed it right on the head with their latest comic.

Ah, the best part of going to eat Chinese food…

May 19th, 2008 | Category: Geekery at its best!

…is reading the fortune cookie afterwards.

Around the office, we can’t wait until the end of lunch to read the fortune cookies so that we can see how many laughs we can get by tacking on “in bed” to the end of the fortune. Seeing this comic today made me think about that and in itself made me chuckle!
